Capturing Carbon for Sustainable Power
Rainbarrow Farm is the home of the UK’s first biomethane to grid anaerobic digestion plant by JV Energen. Following a major upgrade in 2020, it now produces enough renewable gas for 7,500 houses mid-winter and 100,000 houses mid-summer. It is the first site in the country to install technology that captures carbon from waste, converts it into gas and injects it into the gas network. This fuels power for the whole of Poundbury during winter and summer, and also provides further afield. With waste being the biggest producer of carbon worldwide, this technology is revolutionary, as it combines the recycling of materials with carbon capture. It is actions like this which could solidify Britain's place in driving the green revolution.
